The Peanut Butter Pirate Has A Surprising Day

Listen:

A hungry tummy leads the Peanut Butter Pirate to the ship's galley, where he is met with a surprise or two! A story to be read aloud with the little ones in your life (recommended age: 0-8). Warning: may induce hunger!

My children and I were seated around our coffee table, writing a story together. One idea led to another and suddenly we had a story we all wanted to finish and read over and over again!

Having recently read (and been enchanted by) Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie and Badjelly the Witch by Spike Milligan, these stories helped shape our cast of characters.

As I got into the writing of it the story became first a shanty and then a rather lengthy adventure story—but I finally realised I had to stay true to our original vision. A read-aloud story that could be enjoyed now as a family with under-fives. So here it is, a cosy little adventure that features our family's favourite breakfast spread.

Jarred, my husband, worked with me on fine-tuning the story, AND the illustrations and narration. Yes, he's a man of many talents.

All in all this project, which I thought would end with presenting my son Joel with a birthday copy of PBP (who he inspired) ... has gone a lot further than I thought possible!!

Melanie Tito

Mel has loved to read for as long as she can remember. She is slowly building her dream of being an author; one book, poem, essay and discarded draft at a time. She is a wife and mother to three children who love peanut butter, and being read to each day. She hopes that this book will bring you warmth and joy in your household as you share the magic of reading aloud together.

I like the way Jarred read the book, sounded like a real pirate! The audience were quite engaged with the story, thanks for coming to deliver the story session in the library!

Today Rhyme time was so much fun! We sang, danced, and even had a chance to meet the pirate himself! One lucky little participant went home with a special treasure—a book AND a jar of peanut butter!
